California Sightseeing

Day One

We meet our travelling companions this morning and get to know each other as we begin our travels westward. We spend the night just south of Chicago.

Day Two

As we travel through Illinois this morning, we will travel alongside the historic and famous Route 66. We arrive in St. Louis this afternoon, "the gateway to the west". Ride to the top of the city’s most identifiable landmark, the Gateway Arch, for a bird’s eye view of this lovely city. An optional casino excursion will be offered this evening.

Day Three

A scenic drive takes us through the heart of Missouri today. Since Missouri is known for its many spectacular caves, we will stop in Springfield to tour Fantastic Caverns. Continuing on, we spend the night in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Day Four

This morning we will visit The National Cowboy Museum. The museum is America’s premier institution of Western history, art and culture. Founded in 1955, the museum in Oklahoma City collects, preserves and exhibits an internationally renowned collection of Western art and artifacts. Afterwards, we make our way further west, crossing into Texas. We spend the night in Amarillo.

Day Five

We continue to trace Route 66 through New Mexico, stopping to enjoy Old Town Albuquerque this afternoon. A scenic drive takes us to Gallup, just east of the Arizona border, where we will spend the night.

Day Six

Our journey takes us into Arizona this morning, where we will see spectacular Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon. This beautiful area is considered by many to be even more stunning than the Grand Canyon! We’ll let you be the judge. The gorgeous red rock formations are simply amazing. We spend the night in Flagstaff.

Day Seven

Get ready for more breathtaking scenery today, as we visit the famous Grand Canyon. Enjoy an IMAX presentation, then see the canyon for yourself. Take some time to enjoy the sights, and don’t forget your camera!

Day Eight

After a beautiful drive we arrive in Las Vegas this afternoon. Take some time to explore the "strip", and try your luck at one of the many lavish casinos.

Day Nine

njoy an entire day at leisure in Las Vegas. Take in a show, visit Fremont Street, see the amazing casinos...the choice is yours.

Day Ten

We check in to our home for the next two nights, the historic Queen Mary Hotel. Docked permanently in Long Beach and recently renovated, this hotel is something you will never forget. The history is incredible, and walking the ship brings the stories of her eventful past and colourful history to life.

Day Eleven

A guided tour of Los Angeles this morning will highlight all of the city’s most impressive sights. In the afternoon we will enjoy a guided tour of the Queen Mary where you have the chance to step back in time aboard one of the most famous ocean liners in history.

Day Twelve

As we travel up the coast, we stop at Solvang to enjoy this lovely international village. The dramatic scenery along the highway is truly breathtaking. We spend the night at a lovely waterfront hotel in Morro Bay this evening.

Day Thirteen

A short drive north takes us to the astounding Hearst Castle. This sprawling estate will amaze you, as you enjoy a fully guided tour of the property. We continue our drive along the coast to Monterey, where we spend the night.

Day Fourteen

We continue up the coast this morning and then board an historic steam train for an exciting excursion into the Redwood Forest. Enjoy the scenery of this beautiful park, followed by a barbecue lunch. This afternoon, we continue to San Francisco where we spend the next three nights.

Day Fifteen

A local guide joins us this morning to show us the sights in the beautiful city of San Francisco. This afternoon, we will take a boat cruise of San Francisco Bay and circle around infamous Alcatraz. Take some time this afternoon to explore Fisherman’s Wharf, or perhaps ride the rails on the city’s famous cable cars.

Day Sixteen

We take a trip into exquisite Napa Valley for a tour of a local vineyard with wine tasting. This area is world famous for its exquisite wines. We return to San Francisco for the night.

Day Seventeen

We leave the coast and travel east through California today, and into Nevada. A drive through the Eldorado National Forest brings us around the shores of Lake Tahoe. We stop in historic Virginia City, where you can see Nevada as it was over 150 years ago. Arriving in Reno this afternoon, try your luck at one of the many casinos in the area, and enjoy some of Reno’s vibrant nightlife.

Day Eighteen

Sit back and relax today, and enjoy the scenery from the coach. We drive across Nevada, taking in everything from forests to deserts. We cross into Utah, and settle in for two nights in gorgeous Salt Lake City, nestled between Great Salt Lake and the Wasatch Mountain Range.

Day Nineteen

We have the thrilling opportunity this morning to hear the incredible Mormon Tabernacle Choir perform at the impressive Temple Square. Then, we have a guided city tour of Salt Lake City, including many Olympic sites from the 2002 Winter Olympics.

Day Twenty

A beautiful drive takes us through scenic Wyoming today. We venture across the Great Divide Basin, and through the Rocky Mountains, as we make our way to the western rodeo city of Cheyenne.

Day Twenty-One

We continue our journey eastward today, making our way through Nebraska. We spend the night in Omaha, also home to the famous village of Boys Town. This area has been functioning for almost 90 years, offering social and educational programs.

Day Twenty-Two

We drive through the agriculturally rich state of Iowa today, and cross the mighty Mississippi River as we travel into Illinois. We spend our final night together south of Chicago, and enjoy a farewell dinner this evening.

Day Twenty-Three

We return home today with many new friends, and wonderful memories of our grand adventure.
