Sault Ste Marie & The Lake Superior Coastal Drive

Day One:

Climb aboard! Today we journey North to Sudbury, the City of Lakes.

Day Two:

After an included breakfast, we depart for Sault Ste Marie. When we arrive, we'll enjoy a tour of the Sault Ste. Marie Canal, a National Historic Site. Built in 1895, it was known as the world's longest lock, the first to operate using electricity and the last link in an all-Canadian navigational chain from the Atlantic Ocean to Lake Superior. Afterwards, we visit the Ermatinger-Clergue National Historic Site for an included dinner and a fascinating tour. We'll see how some of the earliest European settlers in Sault Ste. Marie lived, and we'll learn about the war of 1812 through interactive displays.

Day Three:

This morning, take in a scenic cruise through both the Canadian and American Locks aboard the Miss Marie ship. Soak up the history and the beautiful views! This afternoon we'll enjoy a wine and cheese reception at the Art Gallery of Algoma, followed by free time to tour of the current exhibitions on display in the Gallery and a walk through the Elsie Savoie Sculpture Park. After freshening up at our hotel, we travel to the Canadian Bushplane Museum to experience "Dinner Among the Planes", which includes dinner, a tour of the museum, and free time to explore.

Day Four:

Today, we begin our grand Lake Superior coastal drive. Along the way, we'll make several exciting stops, including sightseeing at Chippewa Falls, shopping at Agawa Crafts and Canadian Carver, boxed lunch and free time at Lake Superior Provincial Park and Interpretive Centre. By the afternoon we arrive at Sandy Beach to meet a local historian in the pavilion. Together, we'll learn more about A.Y. Jackson (Canadian painter and member of the Group of Seven) and his relationship to this stunning beach. We wrap up the day with sightseeing at Old Woman's Bay Lookout.

Day Five:

After breakfast, we travel to Manitoulin Island, the Island of the Great Spirit. Take in the natural scenery aboard our coach and learn more about this incredible destination. Enjoy an included dinner this evening at the hotel.

Day Six:

This morning, we cross the island to South Baymouth where we'll board the iconic Chi-Cheemaun ferry. Enjoy an impressive cruise to the tip of the Bruce Peninsula, Tobermory. The scenery continues as we travel home.
